Tournament information

Hello Female hockey Parents, Coaches, Managers, & Association Reps.

Now that pre season hockey camps have started and hockey tryouts are only a few weeks away, it’s time for us to announce the 29th edition of the largest female hockey tournament in the province of Manitoba, The Brandon Female Hockey Challenge !!!!!

We are in the planning stages to host our tournament this year starting on Friday, November 14th – Sunday, November 16th. We are very proud to confirm that our local SUBWAY restaurants are once again our title sponsor, and we are striving to host the same great tournament and experience as it always has been, and better.

The City of Brandon is in the southwest corner of the Province of Manitoba, with a population over 50,000 people. We are home to Brandon’s Municipal Airport where WestJet Airlines flies out of daily, and only a 2-hour drive from Winnipeg’s International airport. We also have a couple of great bus lines to assist with any travel needs, Compass Coach Lines and Brandon Bus Lines.

This year’s tournament will be hosted at a few different arenas, due to the WHL Brandon Wheat Kings having a home game Saturday night, which limits our use of the Westoba rink. We are working with the WHL Wheat Kings for a promo opportunity for the teams that will be playing in our tournament this year.

The majority of our games will still be in the adjoining rinks inside the Keystone center, with other games being played at the new J&G Homes Arena, as well as the brand new Minnedosa arena, which is approximately 30 minutes north of Brandon. No teams should have to play more than one game in Minnedosa, and our own Brandon teams will also be playing games there.

The Brandon Female Hockey Challenge has several sponsoring hotels which are all in close proximity to the Brandon arenas. It is mandatory to stay with one of our Sponsor hotels. A list will be provided once registrations are received, and teams are confirmed. We will be assigning the hotels, as we have already secured the bookings for all out-of-town teams to stay. Please do not book ahead.

Games will begin on Friday the 14th as early as 9:00 am for any local teams within an hour, as early as 10:30am for any teams in the southern part of Manitoba, and as early as 12:00pm for all other teams. Travel time for teams from Saskatchewan, Ontario and further will be considered and accommodated as much as possible on Friday. If any teams are wanting to stay in Brandon on Thursday night, please notify us ahead of time, which will help with scheduling.

Our website will be updated with more information about this year’s tournament soon.

Age Divisions will look similar to:

  • U11 A2 – 8 teams
  • U13 A1 – 8 teams
  • U15 A1 – 8 teams
  • U18 A – 8 teams. (if we do not get at least 6 – U18 teams, we will add more teams to another division)

Prior to 2020, this tournament included A1 teams at all levels, however, three years ago the Tournament of Champions (in February) opened up some Female AA divisions. So, our Brandon Female Hockey Challenge is now considered to be a house league or Tier 2 tournament.

The TOC would be considered a AA or Tier 1 tournament for females… U13 Female AA Tournament of Champions

Thanks for your interest in our Brandon Female Hockey Challenge.
